Community
Community is at the heart of what we do at the Coalfields Regeneration Trust. We work with partners to improve the lives of people living in former coalfield communities so they can reach their full potential.

CRT Place is our area based programme where our staff will focus their efforts on a specific location to deliver change for people living in that coalfield community.
Bringing people together
Our Development Managers will use their local knowledge, experience and connections to bring people and organisations together to tackle the issues being faced in a community. Often this will involve creating a package of measures using CRT and our partners’ services to achieve change for their communities. They will also work to advocate for coalfield communities to decision makers at all levels.
Support to access funding
If a community has a scheme which is struggling to access funding our Development Managers will work to try to find solutions to this. We have access to range of grant finder materials, local statistics and data and can offer support to create the strongest possible funding bid.
A community voice in planning
Our CRT Place team in Scotland give communities a voice by carrying out community consultations so that local people can help shape planning decisions in their area. We ask communities what they want and then use our knowledge to create a Local Place Plan which is in line with Scottish Government planning laws to help communities influence long term development in their area.
Community asset transfer support
We know that many coalfield communities suffer from a lack of buildings for local activities. Our Development Managers will work to support organisations who are wishing to carry out a community transfer in order to keep a home for community activities.
Local solutions to local challenges
Each coalfield community is unique and has their own opportunities and challenges. The CRT Place programme is designed to build the solutions which fit the needs of each individual community and is not a one size fits all approach. By identifying the strengths and needs of each area we are able to work to deliver change which will make a long term difference.
