Cynon Valley flood victims offered financial relief through new charity fund administered by The Coalfields Regeneration Trust

Cynon Valley politicians Vikki Howells MS and Beth Winter MP have launched a new fund to help local people whose lives were affected by flooding earlier in the year.

The Cynon Valley Flood Recovery Fund opens today (Tuesday 26 May) to receive applications from anyone who has experienced hardship as a result of the flooding caused by extreme weather, such as February’s Storm Dennis.

The Fund was launched after the local representatives secured money from the Moondance Foundation, the charitable organisation set up by Admiral founder and former CEO Henry Englehardt and his wife Diane.

Applications are limited to one per household and will be for between £500 and £2000, and the fund will be administered independently by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust (CRT).

Vikki Howells MS and Beth Winter MP have written to all affected residents with information on how to apply.

Cynon Valley MS Vikki Howells said:-

“Flooding earlier in the year affected people across Cynon Valley, and many are still struggling to rebuild their lives after the devastation that was caused.

“We wanted to help, so approached the Moondance Foundation to see if they could release any funding to assist our constituents.

“We are very grateful to them for their generous donation which has made this scheme possible, and to the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, who will administer the fund.”

Cynon Valley MP Beth Winter said:-

“The fund is now open to applications from all Cynon Valley households which were affected by the terrible flooding earlier this year.

“Awards are on top of any funding already provided by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council or the Welsh Government.

“We hope that this extra funding can make a big difference to flood victims in Cynon, helping them to get back on their feet.”
